It was a sunny yet frigid Saturday when I was half way to my seemingly unreachable destination. As I keep on pedaling, I also keep on perspiring, but I have this feeling of coldness within me, knowing that something will definitely go wrong before the end of the day. North-west of my view is the most visible landmark, a pseudo-lighthouse, of what I consider as my success.
Thick clouds soon broke the strong solar rays and showers from the heavens dropped like and instant bullet barrage soon after. I found myself pedaling some more, almost exhausting me after an hour of this same endless activity. At last, the nearest shade is in my sight and with haste, I approached it. " 'Nythin' 'can do fer ya' mate?", asked the subdivision guard whilst polishing his gun in his post which served as a weather guard for me and my five-year old bicycle. I left him dumbfounded with no reply and glaring at me, he asked me another question: "Who're ya waitin' fer mate?" "Someone I know.", I replied as I walked around anxiously on the cold and wet floor.
After countless seconds of waiting for her, I can finally feel her presence inside that black pickup truck approaching me from the inside of this subdivision they call 'The Pacific Shores'. The side door of the car opened and she appeared in front of me inviting me to hop in the vehicle. I positioned my bicycle on the back part of the vehicle and hopped in. Her face draws her mixed emotion of happiness and speculation of me, being unexpectedly present in front of her by the moment.
"Why the heck are you out there all soaked in rainwater?", she asked. Leaving her questions unanswered, I instantaneously switched the topic with my question, "What do you mean by this?" while holding my cellphone with texts on it, in front of her. The first moments were emotionless of her, then she started sobbing slowly and quietly. "I'm very, very sorry.", She said, "It's true.", she added while simultaneously grabbing the gadget from my very hands and literally breaking its brain into two.
There were moments of silence between us two until we arrived at this public park they call the Capitol Lagoon. Fortunate for the visitors and us, the rain had stopped. I got my bicycle back and we had to stroll in the left side of the park to make very serious conversations. We sat on a stone bench located on the far side of the park and we stayed in that very location for at least an hour. I can even notice the shadows of stationary monuments slowly drifting as time passes by. That was the very moment I knew that we had to part our lives' ways.
She cried, while I still have this emotionless and plain face on me, expecting that this would happen. "I'm truly sorry, I have to do this." Those were the words of Michelle Katherine Cape as she walked away leaving me behind.
Well, I have no choice but to continue my life's adventures by starting all over and undoing all what I had wrongly done.
For me, this was the best adventure of my life to date. For the rest, judge it by yourselves. Also, I had to pedal again all the way home with this fake smile I'm wearing.

UberZpecial: A Gamer No More by "sonofaditch"
Honestly speaking, I was hooked.
It started when i was in college in the dark recesses of the internet
cafes somewhere in La Salle Avenue. it was the heyday of "Starcraft" and
the internet shops and gaming centers were filled with people of all
ages engaging each other in virtual combat.
I was one of the few customers who was in there to avail of internet
services. so while i was researching on current events in preparation for
an extemporaneous speech event, i was surrounded by sounds of heckling,
trash-talking, and the voices of Humans, Protoss and Zergs.
Viewing them as someone who was an ignoramus in gaming (at that time) I
could not see the allure of those games that only promote mass
destruction and genocide. Gamers to me, were a weird bunch of people whose
actions are an inconvenience to others. They are rude, loud-mouthed, and
they smell like they haven’t had a bath for days.
But little did I know that i would soon be caught up in their world as
well…
I hate to admit it, but it was only in my Senior year in college that I
was provided an opportunity to take my first toddling steps into
gamer-land. Imagine if you will: it was midnight, I was sitting hunched over
the computer monitor - learning how to control an SUV…
and the rest was history.I was hooked on RTS, RPGs, FPS, MMORPGs, and
other game genres. I was a latebloomer and one way i learned was from
watching the hard-core gamers (and they were many) do it. and in order to
gain a fairly decent degree of expertise, you need to have lots of
extra time in your hands…
first it was Starcraft, then came Battle Realms and Dungeon Seige, Red
Alert, Generals, Rogue Spear, a bit of Counterstrike and Rainbow6 (but
i found out that i’m not a shooting person) then came Warcraft, then
Warcraft Frozen Throne, then DoTA. I briefly tried online gaming with MU
and Ragnarok (but i dropped Ragna because it was too expensive, I stuck
with MU beta version until it went fully online)
I was hooked. I realized the thrill of competing, I realized why many
people are hooked - it was the thrill of taking on a character in the
virtual world, it was the chance to be another person in another realm,
it was the array of abilities, powers and weapons that could only be had
in a game of fantasy, it was a chance to go on a mission, an adventure
or quest that is beyond your wildest dreams. it was everything that
young, impressionable and oftentimes reality-weary people were looking
for. it was the greatest of escapes…
a geek who doesn’t get much respect in school would suddenly transform
into the most feared and respected wizard in Lorencia, the lowly
student who is always being nagged by his parents and hounded by his teachers
would now get a chance to zap them with his laser cannons, the loner
who had read too much Tolkien books finds a kindred soul in the virtual
halls of Midgard…
but oftentimes, we tend to confuse the line between reality and
virtuality. we tend to crave for the thrill and for the escape, without
knowing that the real world awaits us and that we have real-life problems,
real-life responsibilities and duties to perform.
many a times we would often put-off our work in order to engage in
mini-tournaments. we became masters of the Alt+Tab keys, we devoted more
time to mastering strategies than mastering our lessons or doing our job
at the Yearbook Office.
but thank goodness that despite the relentless temptations of these
games, I managed to keep a level head and set my priorities straight. it
was hard to schedule my responsibility as Yearbook EIC, as a graduating
Education student, and as a gamer but thank God that I pulled it off.
and now that i am a teacher, i often look upon these young students who
are on the path of gaming addiction with concern. but i have to admit
that i do envy them, they who can afford to let go of their real-world
responsibilities and exist for hours on end in the virtual world,
blasting away their worries in life.
the real-world has taken ahold of me…and it is only in the rarest of
opportunities that i could be a Night Elf again. not much time for play
anymore, and i had retired my mouse pad.

UberZpecial: Team Philippines Wins The Ran Global Tournament Championship, October 4, 2008
Team Philippines wins RGT Championship 2008
It was a moment all Filipino RAN players will remember as Team Philippines won 1st place at the 2nd RAN Global Tournament 2008, one of the biggest online gaming competitions in Asia.
Team Philippines, represented by Vincent Amado, Carlo Magcalas, MJ Buday and Kevin Medina, defeated teams from Malaysia, Thailand,Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong to win the RGT Championship.
IP E-Game Ventures Inc. (e-Games), the online gaming subsidiary of IPVG Corp., held the tournament in cooperation with Min Communications Corp, and Goldsky Inc, developer and regional distributor of RAN Online respectively.
This is the first time that e-Games has held an international gaming competition . RGT was first held in October 2007 at Bangkok, Thailand.
First legs of the competition
Starting off as underdogs, Team Philippines lost two consecutive matches to Hong Kong and Taiwan respectively. But they rebounded from their defeat to make a resounding comeback that lasted throughout the final matches.
Their last match in the eliminations brought them face to face with the last year’s RGT champions, Thailand, which they were able to surmount easily.
In the semi-final round, PH faced Hong Kong once more, with the match coming to the decision round. Both teams suffered casualties in their ranks, but PH remained unfazed and barrelled through to finish the job, earning them a spot in the finals. Their last opponent was Team Malaysia.
RGT Finals
The Finals required the teams to win the best-of-five matches. Team Philippines maintained their hold as they won their first two games. However, Team Malaysia didn’t give in easily as they won rounds 3 and 4.
A decision match was put into place. The RAN Online community cheered their team in this do-or-die round. When the signal was given, both teams rushed to meet each other. PH was ahead in terms of numbers and it wasn’t long before the match was finally concluded, with PH wiping out the rest of their opponent’s characters thus winning the this year’s tournament.
“I was really nervous, but I told myself ‘this is it’. I was praying hard that time,” Team PH’s leader, Vincent Amado, recalled.
“’Get the gold’, that was our one and only goal that time,” said MJ Buday.
The SMX Convention Center Trade Hall 5, venue for the 2nd RGT, reverberated with thunderous cries of jubilation as the Philippine Team won the final leg of the tournament. Even the RGT delegates were taken back by the explosive response of the RAN Online Philippine Community.
IPVG President and CEO, Enrique Gonzalez, personally congratulated the team for their amazing show of skill and talent in their matches.
Gil Edeza, COO of e-Games said that the support from the community was just astounding. “They cheered on the Team Philippines but they also did that for the other teams. RAN Online is special because it allows players from different regions of the world to learn and understand each others cultures thuis bridging geographical borders and sharinge one passion.”
Aside from the title of the 2008 RAN GT Champions, the four-man team won US$ 5,000. Second place went to Malaysia and US$ 3,000 while Team Hong Kong placed 3rd, and went home with US$ 2,000.
Min Communications CEO, Kimboss (Kim Byung-Min), was present during the entire tournament, together with Hideki Moriya and Fumiaki Gotoh from Japan’s Gonzo Rosso, and James Huang from Taiwan’s Goldsky Digital Technology, Ltd.
The 2008 RAN Global Tournament saw more than 3,000 attendees from the local community. Aside from the tournament, RGT 2008 also had other online and offline events for the local RAN community.
